5e Jump Calculator

Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a small online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: jumping.

If you’ve ever been the DM who paused combat to look up the exact jumping rules, debated if that chasm is actually jumpable, or tried to remember which stats affect jump distance, this tool was built with you in mind.

What Is 5e Jump Calculator?

5e Jump Calculator is a simple online helper that turns the official 5th Edition jumping rules into instant numbers.

You provide basic character info—like Strength score, height, and a few relevant conditions—and the calculator spits out your:

Maximum long jump distance

High jump height

Maximum reach during a jump

Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules

No page-flipping, no rough estimates—just straightforward outputs you can rely on.

Why I Built This Tool

This site was born from repeated rules questions at the table.

As a Dungeon Master and player, I often hit the same situation:

A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, we all pause to look up the details.

The 5e rules for jumping are straightforward, just not when you’re under time pressure. I found myself reaching for the PHB over and over again, so I did the sensible nerd thing: I built a calculator.

5e Jump Calculator was originally just a quick private tool, and then I decided to share it in case other tables were running into the same slowdown.

How the Calculator Handles the Rules

This tool follows the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules found in the Player’s Handbook. In simple terms, it:

Uses your Strength score to determine base jump distances

Accounts for running vs standing jumps

Uses your height for realistic reach calculations

Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions

You never have to think about the math directly. The calculator takes care of it and gives you the final, table-ready numbers.

Using This Tool During Play

5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:

Quick enough for live play

Accessible for beginners

Accurate enough for rules lawyers

You can use it to:

Verify a jump before the roll

Plan interesting movement options during encounter prep

Keep cinematic moments moving without arguing over distances

Just enter the stats and read the output. It’s meant to get out of the way, not slow you down with options.

What’s Next?

Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is kept lean on purpose: it handles jump distances cleanly.

In the future, I plan to:

Add more 5e movement-related tools

Cover more special abilities and conditions

Improve the layout and usability based on feedback

If you notice an issue, or if you have a suggestion, feel free to reach out. This site is built to help real tables, and your experience at the table is what matters most.

Thanks for out 5e Jump Calculator. May it help your party jump a little farther and your rules debates be a little shorter.
