Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a tiny online tool built to solve one oddly specific D&D 5e problem: jumping.
If you’ve ever been the player who paused combat to look up the exact jumping rules, debated how far a character can really leap, or tried to reconstruct from memory exactly how the jumping math works, this tool was built with you in mind.
So, What Does This Site Do?
5e Jump Calculator is a free web tool that turns the official 5th Edition jumping rules into instant numbers.
You enter a few details about your character—like Strength score, height, and a few relevant conditions—and the calculator spits out your:
Maximum long jump distance
Maximum high jump
Maximum reach during a jump
Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules
No back-of-the-napkin math, no rules confusion—just straightforward outputs you can rely on.
Why I Built This Tool
This site was the result of repeated rules questions at the table.
As a D&D fan who runs and joins games, I often hit the same situation:
A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, we all pause to look up the details.
The 5e rules for jumping are straightforward, just not when you’re under time pressure. I was tired of re-reading the same paragraph every few sessions, so I did the sensible nerd thing: I made a dedicated tool.
5e Jump Calculator began as something I used just for my home games, and then I turned it into a site so others could use it in case other tables were running into the same slowdown.
How It Works (In Plain Language)
This tool uses the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules as written in the PHB. In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength to set how far and how high you can jump
Accounts for running vs standing jumps
Uses your height for realistic reach calculations
Sticks closely to RAW and avoids house-rule shortcuts
You don’t need to know the exact formula. The calculator takes care of it and gives you the final, table-ready numbers.
Using This Tool During Play
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Simple enough to use during combat
Clear enough for new players
Accurate enough for rules lawyers
You can use it to:
Check whether a character can clear an obstacle before they commit
Plan interesting movement options during encounter prep
Keep cinematic moments moving without arguing over distances
Open the site, fill in the fields, and you’re done. It’s meant to fade into the background, not become the focus of the session.
Where This Might Go
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is kept lean on purpose: it handles jump distances cleanly.
In the future, I plan to:
Add more 5e movement-related tools
Cover more special abilities and conditions
Polish the interface and add small features
If you spot something off, or if you have a suggestion, feel free to reach out. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your feedback helps shape what it becomes next.
Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. I hope it saves you a few minutes—and a few arguments—every session.
